Local wrestler tries his hand at athletics

He will be competing in the Gauteng Championships and the SA Masters Championships.

The famous Honour Wrestling Association (HWA) wrestler, Steven van Eeden (aka Steve Eden), has already shown off his wide range of talents this year – in athletics field events – and was consequently selected for the South African Masters Athletics Team.

Steven surely has the strength to take down any wrestler in the ring, and now he is showing off his skills in the javelin, shot put and discus items. He currently averages 13,72m in shot put, 37,58m in javelin and 40,26m in discus. This secured him a spot among the Top Three Masters SA in his age category of 40–44 years. “I am very excited to have been chosen for this team,” Steven explained.

He will be representing the University of Johannesburg athletics team in all three items at the Gauteng Championships in April, and at the South African Masters Championships in May.
