Man sentenced to 22 years for housebreaking

Convicted on multiple counts related to incidents in Constantia Kloof and Honeydew

Criminals may seem to act with impunity but police are working hard to make sure that the law is effectively enforced. The wheels of justice finally caught up with one man when he was sentenced in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on 13 December 2019.

On 23 October 2017 a man, who prefers not to be named, was the victim of a robbery at his home in Constantia Kloof. Shortly after leaving the premises, he received a call from his security company that he had been burgled. A fingerprints expert was on hand and a set of fingerprints were lifted from the scene that were subsequently matched to those of Anthony Vuso Khumalo who already had previous convictions for house robbery.

Khumalo was then linked to multiple house robberies, two in Roodepoort and one in Honeydew. He was arrested on 19 November 2018 and sentenced to 22 years’ imprisonment in December 2019. Florida Police spokesperson, Sergeant Mpho More proudly confirmed the conviction saying, “We would like to encourage the community not to hesitate to open any case because the arm of the law is long and is bound to catch these criminals”.

The successful conviction gives hope to the numerous victims of house robbery and other crimes in Roodepoort. Police urge the public always to report crimes so that patterns can be identified and traced. A concerted effort between the police, community organisations and the public will be vital in the ongoing struggle against crime.
