This is not the end of curbside collections

Where one recycling door closes, another opens; Recycle for our Future Pty (Ltd) is hoping to help Roodepoort Residents with curbside collections of their recyclable materials.

Mpact Recycling has provided a valuable service to the environment as well as many communities throughout South Africa. The company had a household collection programme that saw truck drivers collecting recyclable materials from different neighbourhoods, which helped ease the struggle that many residents might have had with where to take their recyclable items.

The hasslefree service made it a lot easier to do something good for the environment.

Unfortunately, as of Friday, 13 December, the company found it necessary to terminate this programme. MD for the company, John Hunt, said that the termination is due to the recycling industry constantly evolving. Not much more was said in the media statement other than the fact that Mpact Recycling is still wholly committed to creating recycling opportunities and recyclables can still be dropped off at their pick-up points.

The news was not handled well by many residents. Not everyone has the time or resources (like transport) to take their recyclables to Mpact’s various pick-up points, but there is a silver lining to every dark cloud.

Recycle for Our Future (Pty) Ltd is a recycling company that has been in operation for 32 years and has the same values as Mpact. For the past 10 years, they have been doing curbside collections from various estates and complexes. With Mpact terminating their curbside collections, Recycle for our Future Pty (Ltd) has decided to extend to their free curbside collection programme to all residences so that recycling doesn’t decrease.

They are extending their collections programme to make sure that communities throughout the West Rand continue to recycle, and start to recycle if they aren’t already.

The company collects all recyclables, including:

• Paper

• Plastic

• Cans

• Glass

• Metal

• Cardboard

Recycling is extremely valuable to the environment; it reduces pollution, reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators, it conserves natural resources, it saves energy, and so much more.

The Roodepoort community is urged to make use of this valuable service if they cannot drop off their recyclable materials.
