Police members commended for outstanding service

Awards given to those going beyond the call of duty

Sacrificing their time and in some cases their lives, our men and women in uniform often perform a thankless task. As a way to acknowledge exemplary service, Roodepoort Police handed out certificates to three outstanding servants of the Police Force on Wednesday, 4 December.

The wheels of justice are often accused of moving too slow, but Roodepoort Police have a dedicated sergeant who is always hot on the heels of perpetrators, looking to bring them to justice. Sergeant MS Mohale was awarded two Certificates of Commendation for his role in securing convictions in two separate murder cases.

Sergeant Mohale helped solve a 2018 double murder case and a 2017 murder, which led to a double life imprisonment and 15 year conviction respectively; the inscription on the certificate confirming, “The trial was finalised speedily due to the member’s exceptional dedication”.

On the more compassionate end of the scale are Chaplain Lukas Visagie and his wife Jeanette. They have worked tirelessly in the Victim Support Centre at the Police Station. They have also provided counselling to victims of crime for over 20 years. Both were made Honorary Members of the Emergency Services Chaplaincy of South Africa.

While the public sleeps in relative safety at night, the officers and support staff of the Roodepoort Police are in the streets hunting criminals and giving support to those caught up in the chaos. The thin blue line is not always given the praise it deserves but Roodepoort Police are lucky to have a few members challenging perceptions.
