For the past week or so, there has been a marked difference in the majority of the population. The change I have seen is not necessarily something specific, but more of a change in the atmosphere, or, if you like, a feeling.
I have seen it everywhere I go – in the shopping malls, when you drive through the neighbourhoods and even at the office. And yes, this feeling has me all excited as well, making it quite difficult to focus on the tasks still having to be completed before we can officially say it is time to celebrate.
I am sure you have guessed that I am talking about the Christmas spirit that is starting to fill the air slowly, but steadily, resulting in marked changes in the mood of your fellow citizens, as well as a change in attitude.
And, even though there are still a few weeks left before we can officially welcome Christmas, we are all in the process of starting to wind down and prepare for the upcoming holiday. It is as if the prospect of some down time is giving everyone that extra bit of motivation to bite the bullet and power through the last few days at work before they too can close the office door behind them and start to relax, and spend some quality time with loved ones and friends.
So, as the days pass and we are getting closer to this blissful time, let us not allow the last few working days to drag us down too much, robbing us of the magic and joy associated with this time of year. Let’s go out and enjoy the decorations in the malls, the twinkling lights and yes, even the Christmas music and adverts, before reaping the rewards of some much-deserved downtime.
Unit next week …
