The word of the day for 17 November is: Literacy.
‘Literacy’ is defined as the ability to read and write.
There are so many beautiful aspects of literacy. If you can read and write, you can travel into new worlds, conquer seemingly insurmountable tasks, and express yourself on paper in ways you may not have been able to in person.
George RR Martin said, “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.”
It is like dreaming while you are awake and if you write, you are the master of your daydreams.
Kofi Annan described literacy as a bridge from misery to hope. When you read, you learn more, not only about physical and scientific things, you also learn life lessons.
Mark Twain said, “The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read.”
If you can read and write, do it. You cannot judge someone who cannot read for things they don’t know, if you can read and write but choose not to know.
