Princess High School says farewell to its beloved principal
Mrs Powell was welcomed to Princess High School on 1 February 2008, the year of the school’s 25th birthday.

In September, a ceremony was held in the school’s hall, which was decorated to perfection, to say goodbye and good luck to the woman who has impacted the lives of so many learners and staff members at the school.
With a total of 41 years of teaching experience under her belt, 11 of which have been as the Principal at Princess High School, this teacher was very well-loved. She not only led the school as principal but also taught classes to the senior students.

Speeches were given by her colleagues and a few students. In a moving toast to the principal, a student named Joy Nkosi referred to Mrs Powell as caring and courageous, adding, “It is so hard to say goodbye to someone who is not only a principal but a mother.”
Deputy Principal, Mrs Mapola reminisced about when the principal first joined the school, saying that the energy and positivity that she radiated on her first day has never gone away. “Her way of management gave me strength.”

Mrs Powell said that one of the things she will miss most is the opportunity to lead. She considered herself a leader from a young age and will miss the opportunity to keep doing that. She spoke about her fellow staff members and learners with pride and love, saying one of her favourite things to do was listen as learners walked past her office singing at 4pm after extra science or maths lessons.
The passion shown by this educator for a job that she is leaving after many dedicated years is truly inspirational.
