It’s Orchid Show time again
The Witwatersrand Orchid Society Autumn Show is happening this weekend in Emmarentia.
Orchids are some of the most coveted ornamental plants, with 466 species indigenous to South Africa and 40 growing in and around Johannesburg. These stunning plants have various symbolic meanings, all based on love, beauty, thoughtfulness, and fertility. The symbolism relating to orchids, paired with their exceptional beauty, draws people from throughout Gauteng to the Annual Orchid Show hosted by the Witwatersrand Orchid Society (WOS).

WOS aims to promote the knowledge of these plants and protect species indigenous to South Africa, and one way they do this is with their annual orchid show. This year’s Autumn Orchid Show will be held at the Floreum of the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens, Olifants Road, Emmarentia on 21 and 22 September.
The two-day exhibition of these stunning plants will run from 9am to 4pm on both days, with demonstrations and talks on how to care for your orchids happening twice daily (at 11am and 2pm).
Spectacular orchids will be on display, and many will be available to purchase. Entrance is R5 for children, R20 for adults, and free for pensioners.
