Lucky escape on Trezona Avenue
Fractions of seconds separate drivers from serious injury
The final outcome could have been far worse for two commuters involved in a minor collision just before 9am this morning, 18 September. A woman driving a white Mini collided with a man in a white Volkswagen on the corner of Trezona Avenue and Ham Street in Witpoortjie. Fortunately no injuries were sustained.

Both parties, including a witness, confirmed the unfolding of events. The woman, in her mid-30s, was on her way home after dropping her children off at school. She was driving in the right-hand lane heading south on Trezona Avenue. The man, also in his mid-30s, driving in the left-hand lane in the same direction, attempted a right-hand manoeuvre. At this time the Mini was too close to the Volkswagen and the collision became inevitable. Upon hitting the Volkswagen, the Mini hurdled the centre median, dodged two large trees and a lamp post, before coming to a rest roughly 80 metres away on the opposite side of Trezona Avenue.
The woman driving the Mini was visibly shaken. Tearfully, she said, “I feel so lucky to be alive. Once it happened I just froze with my foot on the accelerator.” The man in the Volkswagen had little to say other than to deny his culpability in the incident. Neither wanted to be named.
This is a developing story and we will update readers should any more details become available.
