Niall James Horan was born on 13 September, in Mullingar, Ireland.
He was born to Maura and Bobby Horan, who divorced during his childhood. After jumping from house to house, Niall and his brother Greg settled with their father.
In 2010, at the age of 16, Niall auditioned for The X Factor UK, where he got mixed reactions from the judges. Katy Perry, who was a guest judge during his audition, thought Niall was a bit too young and inexperienced, but with Simon Cowell’s support he made it through to the boot camp round. Niall’s heart broke when, at the end of boot camp, he was not chosen to move on to the next round of the competition, or so he thought. To his surprise and joy, Niall was called back onto the stage where he found four other teenage boys (Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne) and thus One Direction was formed.
The boy band didn’t win The X Factor in 2010, coming third overall, but they achieved huge success afterwards and were rumoured to become the world’s first billion-dollar boy band. One Direction has won 242 awards overall and been nominated for 366.
In March of 2015, Zayn Malik left the band, just a few days before they performed in Johannesburg. The other four members continued to perform together, until their last show as a band in December of that year.
In October 2017, Niall released his debut solo album, Flicker, which went straight to number one in 60 countries. He is currently working on his second album which will be released in 2020. This album features a few songs in which he expresses the pain he felt after his break-up with Hailee Steinfeld.
TV actors Tyler Perry and Lili Reinhart were also born on 13 September.
