Class of ’71 from Morris Isaacson reunites in Florida
The group also had the pleasure of celebrating the 68th birthday of Moses “Satch” Mokalapa.
On Sunday, 25 August, the class of 1971 from the Morris Isaacson School reunited at the Porterhouse Restaurant at Florida Junction.
The reunion, which consisted of people from Roodepoort, the Vaal Triangle, Carletonville and Soweto (among other places) was made possible by Christinah Matshaba-Moabelo, who is said to have worked relentlessly to find each and every member of the Matriculation Class of 1971.

According to Aubrey Thomas, one of the coordinators, many of their classmates have passed away since leaving school with the latest being buried just last month.
“The class of ’71 is a unique class. The youngest member is about 65 years old, and the oldest is nearing 70 years of age. We now have about 22 members who are known and still alive. We are very proud of this group,” said Aubrey.
He explained that the class of 1971 is the mother of the class of 1976, where the Soweto Riots started and it has given birth to stalwarts such as Tsietsi Mashinini and thousands of others.
“The class of ’70 is the father of this class. That class had stalwarts such as Abram Onkgopotse Tiro, who was bombed by the system in Botswana in 1972. We are a living history. We had classmates such as Beauty Ngobese, who is now known as Dr Hlengiwe Mkhize and is still very active in the Parliament,” explained Thomas.
The group also had the pleasure of celebrating the 68th birthday of Moses “Satch” Mokalapa.
