In 2008, he was appointed the manager of the Swaziland national side.
He has also managed the South African national side but was sacked in 2004. He was fired on the eve of the 2004 African Cup of Nations, following a suspension.
Mashaba is also known for managing the Vaal Reef Stars and Black Leopards clubs.
In 2014, he was appointed as the manager of Bafana Bafana again, only to be fired again for misconduct. His attempt to appeal the decision failed.
In January this year, he was appointed the manager of Witbank Spurs, but vacated the position in April.
