Pedestrian critical after collision

"Pedestrian critical, driver did not sustain any injuries" – ER24.

A pedestrian believed to be in his late twenties is in a critical condition after he was knocked down by a vehicle on 14th Avenue in Floracliffe early on Tuesday morning 9 July.

Paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene and found the man lying in the middle of the road with multiple injuries. They had to initiate treatment to sustain the man’s basic life functions. He was treated on the scene for multiple fractures as well as a possible head injury.

According to bystanders on the scene, the man was trying to cross the road when a BMW hit him. The driver of the BMW was assessed on the scene. He did not sustained any injuries. The pedestrian later was transported per ambulance to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for further medical care.

Traffic was affected severely on 14th Avenue towards Constantia Kloof while paramedics were treating the patient. The road since has been reopened to traffic.

The exact cause of this incident is not known yet.
