One alleged car thief ran out of luck last night, Thursday, 18 July, after he and his accomplices were interrupted while attempting to break into a targeted vehicle at a local shopping centre.
According to BCI Security’s operations manager, Rudi Holtzhausen, he responded to a panic alarm from his guards at Retail Crossing in Little Falls.
“Upon arrival, the security officers alerted me that a silver Hyundai with three suspects inside had attempted to steal [a] vehicle but then fled the scene when the security officers interrupted them.”
“The description of the vehicle as well as the registration number of the vehicle was then circulated among the rest of the BCI reaction team,” he explained.
He added, “A couple of minutes later, I saw a post on another WhatsApp group, reporting the sighting of the same vehicle at Flora Clinic. The person who posted this message was contacted to keep an eye on the vehicle while I was making my way to the location of the vehicle.”
“As I arrived at Flora Clinic, the suspects tried leaving, but got boxed in by officers from BCI Security, Tau Security and Olympus Security.”
“Two of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene, but one suspect was not that lucky and was detained,” Holtzhausen explained.
He said police were called to attend to the scene and the vehicle was searched. “Lots of ID books, passports, jamming devices, tools used to break into vehicles, handbags and money were found in the vehicle,” Holtzhausen said.
“It was also discovered that the suspects had attached false registration plates over the actual registration plates on the vehicle,” he said.
He added that other security companies later arrived on scene and assisted in searching for the suspects that had fled the scene.
“Police arrested the detained suspect and transported him to the Florida Police Station,” he said.
This is a developing story.
