In response to the City of Johannesburg wanting to electrify informal settlements, we would like feedback from them as to exactly what measures are programmed and when, to upgrade the electricity supply on the Florida Lake side of the railway line (all the way from Florida to the Roodepoort CBD)?
Also, we wish to know what is being done about changing the supply so that all of the above areas can be backfed in the event of a long-term outage, which is not the case at present.
It sounds great to promise the Rugby Club development electricity, but the City must remember that it has been telling residents of the Florida to CBD strip, which is beyond its “use by” date and perennially problematic, for over twenty years, that such upgrades are imminent and are definitely in the current year’s IDP budget.
Owing to the ongoing electricity issues, we habitually attend such meetings. The big question now is, are we well into the third decade of lies and empty promises, or is there, if you’ll pardon the pun, light at the end of this long dark tunnel?
