Teachers off to the USA

The camp will help the four educators to gain a better insight into the aviation space.

The Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi said goodbye to the four teachers who will be attending a seven-day educational camp at the US Space and Rocket Centre in the United States of America (USA).

The trip was made possible by Honeywell. The camp will help the four educators to gain a better insight into the aviation space.

Lesufi was joined by Sean Smith, CEO of Honeywell SA at the Marion On Nicol Boutique Hotel of Distinction where the farewell was held on Tuesday, 2 July.

Honeywell SA has entered into a partnership with the Gauteng Department of Education in 2018 with the intent of exposing primary schools learners to the Adventures in Aviation Programme that provides them with engaging, accurate, aviation and aerospace science-focused educational experiences.

This programme has been added to the learners’ curriculum this year.

The educators, Shepherd Chihwehwete, Saraphine Kekana, Sive Nkankula and Thomson Mathebula are scheduled to depart to the USA on Friday 5 July and will return on Friday 12 July.

Lesufi said, “This commitment by Honeywell SA to assist the department to improve Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education to inspire the next generation of innovators and scientists is highly appreciated. We are hopeful that the travelling educators will learn and impart the knowledge to learners and their peers accordingly. This will contribute immensely on the multiple certification education we aspire to in Gauteng.”
