Community urged to help bury a father

"He did not deserve to die that way"

“It all happened so suddenly, he just stepped out of the house and then within a matter of five minutes I heard gunshots,” said the grieving widow, Bongiwe Pule.

She continued explaining and said, “After hearing the gunshots, I ran out of the house and found him lying near the kitchen door, and that was the end of him.”

Apparently, a group of men were walking around on the evening of Friday, 7 June at about 7pm, targeting members of the community whom they could rob, and in the process they shot and killed 55-year-old Lebotho Kgamanyane, Bongiwe’s partner, as well as three other members of the community.

Members of the community suspect that these deaths may have been caused by illegal miners, because since the arrival of illegal miners in Matholesville, crime has increased.

“What has happened to the community is very sad; it goes to show that we are no longer safe. I would like to send my condolences to the families of the four people who were shot and killed. It is time that we stand up as a community and fight this crime, or else we will all die, one by one,” said community leader, Mbongeni Tabane.

The deceased Lebotho was the family’s breadwinner and leaves behind a son.

The family does not have the money needed to bury Lebotho. Members of the community are urged to contribute any amount of money towards the funeral.
