Local artist wins big at awards
Cheddar was the winner in the Song of the Year category for his song entitled Tipoti.
Local artist, Dlozi Cheddar Mahlatse went, saw and conquered at the 011 Awards which were held on Saturday, 1 June in Braamfontein.
Cheddar was the winner in the Song of the Year category for his song entitled Tipoti, meaning tea pot. Speaking to the Record, he said he was very happy to have flown the West Rand flag up high and brought the award back home.
“I am so excited because this was my very first nomination since I started making music back in 2012 and I made sure that I represented the West Rand well. I celebrated the whole weekend because this is the beginning of many more awards.”
The award-winning Cheddar said he hopes that next year he will be attending awards where he will be competing with the likes of Nasty C and AKA, among other amazing artists.
He is currently working on his Extended Play (EP) which he wishes to drop soon.
“I was supposed to drop one of my songs last week but there were complications,so I hope I will be able to drop it next week.”
Cheddar concluded by thanking everyone for the support they have shown him thusfar.
“I would like to thank the 011 Awards for the amazing opportunity and everyone that voted for me,” he said.
