Roodepoort Athletics Club hold comrades braai
The main objective for the braai was to encourage and wish all the Club members that will be running in the famous race good luck.
The Roodepoort Athletics Club held their annual comrades braai on 26 May at the Ampie Barnard Tennis Courts in Horison.
The club will go into this year’s comrades with nine first time runners and a total of 55 entries all running on the day.
The Clubs Chairman, Charlie Herselman addressed everybody that was present on Sunday afternoon and did a brief introduction of the runners on his birthday.

Present at the braai were club veterans, 75 year old Jan Kemp, who ran a total of 26 comrades marathons and 74 year old Hazel Quilliam who ran her last comrades at the age of 65.
The oldest member of the Club, Anita Botha ran 26 comrades consecutively and is going for race 27 this year.
Club member Dale Rynhoud has the most comrades’ marathon appearances under his belt, he will be running his 29th comrades this year.

Jessica Röder was excited to be one of the Club’s runners who will be running her first Comrades Marathon, and said she was looking forward to be part of the new experience of road running.
Families and the Club’s supporters enjoyed the afternoon of good food and refreshments in a true traditional spirit of the historic Marathon.
