Wear your takkies and support FAMSA West Rand

Use your small change to make a big change

International Tekkie Tax Day will be celebrated on 31 May, affording everyone the opportunity to help one of more than 300 local welfare organisations.

One of the organisations that will be benefiting this year is Families South Africa (FAMSA) West Rand, and they are encouraging individuals, schools and companies to use their small change to make a big change in the community by purchasing any of the campaign’s items.

Items that can be purchased, include stickers at R10 each, Tekkie Tax hickie shoelaces and sticker combo at R40, or a T-shirt at R100 (adults) or R80 (children).

Eline Wheeler from FAMSA explained that their organisation, which is a non-governmental organisation, offers a variety of counselling and support services to some of the poorest members of the West Rand.

“But, because of their unique circumstances, they are unable to contribute financially towards FAMSA, and the subsidy received from the Department of Social Development only funds salaries. The rest of the money we need must be raised through fundraisers, meaning we need the community’s support to survive,” she said.

She added that purchasing a sticker, shoelaces or a t-shirt will help them to give hope to a traumatised child or help an abused woman to heal.

The Tekkie Tax items can be purchased directly from Tekkie Tax, any Toys ‘R’ Us/ Babies ‘R’ Us or online from https://www.takealot.com or https://www.tekkietaxtax.org.

Alternatively, you can visit the FAMSA West Rand offices at 16 Dieperink Street, Roodepoort or call them on 011 766 3283.
