Joburg West Cluster Police detained 72 people last weekend

Thirty-seven arrests were made by the Honeydew Police.

 

Officers from the Johannesburg West Cluster brought 72 suspects to book following weekend operations by the various stations.

Of the total, 37 arrests were made by the Honeydew Police between 6am and 6pm on 3 May.

The charges included theft, rape, possession of dagga, culpable homicide, assault and drunken driving.

However, the biggest arrest occurred in the Douglasdale precinct. A person was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition after a house robbery that occurred in the area.

“A 72-year-old woman was at home when she was accosted by two males whose accomplices remained outside the house. The perpetrators ransacked the house and took a flat screen television,” said Constable Takalani Matumba, the standby JHB West Cluster spokesperson.

However, she said one of the perpetrators was unlucky as the victim started screaming as the thieves were leaving. She was fortunately heard by a neighbour who fired a shot at the perpetrator’s lower back, bringing him down. He was found to be in possession of a unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
