Help Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen this winter

They are in need of donations to alleviate winter’s bite

“All we want this winter is for our less fortunate elderly and children to have enough food, medicine, warmth and blankets.

“We are appealing to the community to share their warmth with our 423 vulnerable children and 150 senior citizens who are living in some of the harshest conditions by blessing them with blankets, mattresses, winter clothes, socks, shoes, food and medicine,” said Yolindie Oberholzer from Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen.

She added that one act of kindness can provide someone with the basics to survive, and said, “Your donation can change their lives. Every day is a struggle for our children and elderly folk, even more so during the winter months. Winter has become a nightmare for many of them, and they live in constant fear that they will not survive the cold days and freezing nights because they cannot feed themselves, have no access to medicine and do not have sufficient bedding to provide some warmth.”

Their winter wish list is as follows:

• Soup powder mix

• Noodles, spaghetti

• Dried, fresh or frozen soup vegetables

• Meaty bones

• Mince meat, Soya mince

• Mealie meal

• Powdered milk

• Canned food
