An evening spent talking about food
It was meeting number 460 for West Rand Toastmasters

Members, visitors and guests gathered at the Discovery Bowling Club to attend the 460th meeting of the West Rand Toastmasters.
Ernest Watkins, the Club’s Sergeant-at-Arms, called the meeting to order, before Glen Campbell, the Vice-president: Public Relations, welcomed everyone present.

The theme for the evening was ‘food’, which was expertly referenced throughout the night by Glen. She spoke about all the different foods and cultures that she has experienced during her travels, and concluded by saying, “South Africans might possibly have the most unhealthy eating habits and we really need to cut down on our intake of red meat, fried foods and wheat.”
The different roles for the evening was filled by various members; Alwyn van Wyngarden was the Table Topic Chair, Claude Joshua was the Grammarian and the Ines Leal kept everyone entertained for hours in the role of Joke Master.

Heather Coakelin ensured the audience was put at ease with her entertaining Ice Breaker speech entitled ‘Skip of Heather’, sharing her very interesting life and experiences working in different fields. She concluded by sharing her current hobby, which is growing herbs to use for natural medicinal purposes.
Thato Majelo spoke about the art of selling, Stephanie Watkins had everyone in stitches with her humorous speech, ‘Honeymoon Braai’ and Lynette Harris concluded the evening’s formalities with her educational speech, highlighting the Exco Roles at the Toastmasters.

The next meeting will be held on 18 April at the Discovery Bowling Club, Lucas Avenue, Discovery. It will start at 6.30pm.
