Wilro Cycle Challenge cancelled
‘The cyclists’safety is of paramount importance to us’
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the ever-popular Wilro Cycle Challenge, that would have taken place on 7 April, has had to be cancelled.
Rob Stevens, organsier of the race, explained, “Due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to make the decision to cancel the race. We have been advised by the relevant authorities that the R24 between the Tarlton International Raceway and Orient Road has been closed after residents in the area ‘chopped’ a two-metre trench across the road during protest action.”
He added that there was no guarantee that the road would be repaired by the date of the race, and said, “There is also the possibility that, should it be repaired, it might be destroyed again.”
Rob said that the safety of the cyclists was their first priority and that is why the decision was, after much deliberation, taken to rather cancel the race.
“We wish to apologise to all cyclists for any inconvenience caused, as a result of the cancellation of the race,” he concluded.
