The Roodepoort Police recently undertook various special operations, as well as stop-and-search exercises in the Roodepoort precinct, which resulted in 110 arrests.
The operations took place between 1 and 13 March, and were conducted as follows:
• 1 to 3 March:
Thirty-three suspects, aged between 17 and 59 years, were arrested on charges of contravention of the Gauteng Liquor Act, shoplifting, driving under the influence of alcohol, assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm (GBH), possession of drugs, possession of dagga in public, possession of suspected narcotic substances, and reckless and negligent driving read with malicious injury to property.
• 4 March:
Eighteen suspects aged between 22 and 44 years were arrested on the following charges: theft, possession of dagga, common robbery, possession of dagga in public, common assault (in terms of the Domestic Violence Act 116 of 1998), intimidation, assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm (in terms of the Domestic Violence Act), possession of suspected narcotic substances, shoplifting, fraud and violation of a protection order.
• 5 March:
Eight suspects aged between 25 and 41 years were arrested on the following charges: fealing in drugs, theft, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of drugs, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and assault common (in terms of the Domestic Violence Act 116 of 1998).
• 7 March:
Nine suspects aged between 21 and 46 years were arrested on the following charges: rape, theft and common assault (in terms of the Domestic Violence Act 116 of 1998), assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm, possession of drugs, shoplifting, and driving whilst under the influence of alcohol read with reckless and/ or negligent driving.
• 8 to 10 March:
Thirteen suspects aged between 16 and 59 years were arrested on the following charges: shoplifting, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of drugs and possession of dagga in public.
• 11 March:
Fifteen suspects aged between 19 and 41 years were arrested on the following charges: assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected drug substance, possession of dagga in public, assault (in terms of the Domestic Violence Act 116 of 1998), armed robbery, house robbery and malicious injury to property (in terms of the Domestic Violence Act).
• 12 March:
Nine suspects aged between 19 and 61 years were arrested on the following charges: possession of dagga in public, theft, possession of suspected narcotic substances, rape and possession of suspected stolen property.
• 13 March:
Five suspects aged between 24 and 52 years were arrested on the following charges: assault with the intention to commit grievous bodily harm, theft, shoplifting, and common assault common (in terms of the Domestic Violence Act 116 of 1998).
All the suspects were detained at the Roodepoort Police station and will be appearing in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
