The possibility of involvement by City Power staff in the persistent scourge of bogus meter readers targeting homeowners is being given the eagle eye by the entity.
This followed from the latest armed robbery of an elderly couple in Witpoortjie, who fell victim to the scam perpetrated by four suspects, one of whom was wearing a City Power T-shirt.

After gaining entry to the property, the suspects held the family at gunpoint while they stole two televisions and a car.
The spokesperson for City Power, Isaac Mangena, reiterated the warning to residents to be vigilant and refuse access to any person claiming to be from City Power without first verifying their credentials with City Power.

“We are aware of the impersonators that have been robbing people using our name (City Power) and at times even wearing City Power uniform. We are also investigating the possibility of involvement by City Power staff,” Mangena commented on the matter.
He added that their thoughts are with the families that were robbed.
