Residents living near the Georginia railway station have complained about criminals breaking the palisade fence that secures the nearby mini substation.
According to the residents, the substation was vandalised twice in one month before a new substation was installed.
Chad Davies, a member of an informal Neighbourhood Watch in Georginia said, “Criminals cut the palisade fence and invade the substation to steal parts of it. They vandalised two mini substations in one month. Now that the palisades have been removed, they will come and steal the parts of the substation again. We reported the matter to City Power, but we did not receive any response.”

Another issue that the residents are concerned about is the street lights that are always on in First Avenue. Chad said that the lights have been burning constantly for about two months.
The ward councillor for Georginia, Gert Niemand, said, “No one has complained to me about either the substation or the street lights. As far as the City Power issues are concerned, residents are reminded to report these matters to the call centre (011 470 3630) so that they can receive the necessary attention. If is not reported, the matter will not be fixed.”
When the Record contacted City Power to enquire about the matter, they said they needed the reference number from the initial complaint. However, the residents have not provided this number to the Record.
