Eskom fraudulent SMS doing the rounds

There are no other alternative methods.

A fraudulent SMS is doing the rounds and Eskom is warning residents not to do what is instructed by the SMS.

Residents are warned about a rotating fraudulent SMS requesting residents to pay an amount of money at PEP stores and then send PIN to the number that sent the SMS, in order to delay Eskom cutting off their electricity supply.

According to Eskom’s Operating Unit Officer, Phemelo Biloane, this SMS is a scam. “There is no such of a payment procedure which is used by Eskom,” he said.

Should the public receive this SMS, you are urged to call the contact centre on: 086 037 566 or go to the nearest customer hub to report the matter.

Residents, who wish to make payment arrangements for accounts that are in arrears, should go to the walk in at the customer service centre.
