Joburgers to face power outages again today

The power outages will take place from 8am until 11pm nationwide

Residents will face more power outages today, as Eskom has announced it will implement Stage 3 load shedding.

Stage 3 means that 3 000 megawatts of electricity need to be cut from the grid. Eskom has said the system is still under severe pressure.

The power outages will take place between 8am and 11pm nationwide, at various times on Tuesday, 12 Febuary.

According to Eskom spokesperson, Khulu Phasiwe, the power system remains constrained.

“We’ll continue to provide regular updates about the state of the power system through various media platforms. We continue to appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period to assist in reducing demand,” he said

The MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services, councillor Nico de Jager, recently stated, “When load shedding was abruptly announced on Sunday it certainly caught City Power and Joburg residents by surprise and unprepared. As a result, there appears to have been confusion when entire substations were load shed at once, instead of according to the block-by-block approach as per the schedules. This happened as a result of City Power System Control using a different version of the schedule from that used by Eskom after the system crashed. City Power’s system has since been aligned with the Eskom system. Taking into account the devastating effect of load-shedding on our ageing infrastructure, the City will engage with Eskom to better align all the systems”.
