The fact that the organisers of the alleged street fights in Florida want to find premises in order to legitimise their fights is not going to fly, according to Boxing South Africa.
Communications Officer for Boxing SA, Lehlonono Ramagole, told the Record that boxing is strictly regulated by law in this country. According to the South African Boxing Act 11 of 2001, Boxing SA has to sanction fights and boxers must be approved, first on amateur level and thereafter on professional level. Furthermore, boxers are subjected to regular fitness and health checks.

Ramagole said Boxing SA strongly condemns the street fights.
Information has surfaced that street fights were allegedly held in Fifth Avenue on 31 January. According to a video, fighters are “only allowed to box” and “the first fighter to hit the ground loses”.
