Crime will fall in ward 85
Residents have now joined forces to combat crime in the area
Plans to combat crime are progressing since Ward 85 councillor, Sonja Meyer, and the Kruin Community Voluntary Association (KCVA) hosted a ward meeting at the Eco Centre, Kloofendal Nature Reserve.
The agenda for the meeting was to discuss the Bert Close and Dakota waterfall issues. Residents living in that area have endless problems with the people visiting the area and engaging in activities that are prohibited. “The purpose of the meeting was to create a task team to do cost research and then get sponsors to help with contributions,” said Meyer.

The three affected areas in Ward 85 are:
• The Dee Dee Brown Park
• The waterfall area in Helderkruin
• The Kloofendal Nature Reserve
According to Meyer, criminals utilise the affected areas as ‘springboards’ and escape routes through which they target residential properties situated on the perimeters thereof in order to perpetrate crime. Such offences include but are not limited to housebreaking with the intention to rob, steal or hijack.
The majority of these offences are perpetrated at night, making the detection of an approach or an escape impossible. However, the residents have now joined forces to combat crime in the area and have called for the assistance of Meyer.
The KCVA is a constitutionalised, legal entity in terms of the common law of the Republic of South Africa and is recognised in terms of the provisions of section 18(2) of the South African Police Services Act 68 of 1995, on behalf of its nearly 2 000 members.
