Earning a living from my hobbies
The 21-year-old entrepreneur took what used to be a hobby and changed it into a brand and business that he thoroughly enjoys pursuing from 8am to 5pm.
Roodepoort model and photographer Mbongo Keswa could soon be seen on billboard adverts and commercials as he rises to stardom in the modelling industry.
The 21-year-old entrepreneur and photographer is as much at home in front of the camera as he is behind it. He took what used to be a hobby and changed it into a brand and business that he thoroughly enjoys pursuing from 8am to 5pm.

Keswa shed some light on his entrepreneurial journey and what inspired him to be a model and photographer. “I’ve been a photographer for almost three years and a model for pretty much four, with 2018 being the year I took my modelling seriously. I was inspired to pursue this journey after seeing the possibilities the industry had to offer,” said the self-discovered talented model, who dropped out of his mechanical engineering course to follow what his family believed was a hobby. They said he was throwing away an opportunity of a lifetime.
“After dropping out two years into the course to become a model and photographer, I had the challenge of persuading my mother to believe in my passion and also keep myself motivated in order to achieve the things I desired while building a name for myself,” he explained.
Keswa also shared his vision of working with big companies and being an acclaimed young entrepreneur. “As a photographer I see myself snapping photos around the world and partnering with big companies in the industry, offering a service instead of working for them. I would also like mine to be a success story that would inspire the youth in the country through my recognisable craft,” he envisioned.

As an individual who has experienced the ups and downs of the industry and entrepreneurship, Keswa provided advice to aspiring youngsters looking to make their mark. “My most important advice to the keen youngsters in both fields (modelling and photography) is that they should make sure that they are following their passion because the industry is marred by hardships, which could cause some to quit because of the lack of gigs and also being unable to equip themselves with the necessary tools and props,” he advised.
