Power failure in areas of Roodepoort

You may arrive home tonight to find that you don't have electricity.

Areas of Roodepoort, including Florida, Florida Park, and Florida Hills are currently affected by a power outage; however, City Power has dispatched technicians to see to the issue.

According to Ward 70 councillor, Caleb Finn, two of the three feeder cables to the Nursery substation have faulted and the station cannot carry all the load on one feeder cable.

The plan of action is as follows:

– The Ontdekkers substation’s load has been transferred to Kloofendal substation.

– The Depot Manager is urgently requesting approval to repair two 33kV feeder cables between the Sentraal and Nursery substations. Once approval is granted, a contractor will be sent on site tonight to do repairs.

– In the interim, the control box surrounding the one remaining feeder cable’s breaker cannot be closed due to vandalism, but the protection department is on site sorting this out.

– Once the feeder cable is on and the transformer is live, the technicians can slowly add to its load. It is hoped that it will take most of the load, but City Power will not know if this is possible until it starts this process.

Residents are requested to please assist City Power by reducing their use of power this afternoon and tonight in an effort to keep everyone supplied.
