King of the Whip event set to delight motorcycle enthusiasts – again
Event will be taking place on 2 February
It is almost time again for the annual King of the Whip event, where last year’s champion, Dallan Goldman from Roodepoort, will have the opportunity to defend his crown.
The contest, organised by LW Mag and Monster Energy, in association with Motul, Playstation (Monster Energy Supercross 2 – The Official Videogame) and Fox Racing, will be taking place on 2 February.
Spectators can look forward to witnessing the country’s best Motorcross (MX) and Freestyle Motorcross (FMX) athletes battling it out for their share of the R40 000 prize purse, and of course, seeing who will ultimately be crowned as King of the Whip.

The prize purse will be split between the first, second and third placed contestants in the Best Whip contest, and the first place riders in the FMX Best Trick contests.
The contest will be taking place at Biker’s Warehouse, 1 Aureole Avenue, Northriding and proceedings are set to kick off at 4pm. The prize-giving is expected to take place at about 9pm.
Ryan van der Spuy, King of the Whip organiser, said, “Riders will be split into groups and will have to qualify through the jam session rounds. Judges will be looking for style, amplitude and variation, and riders that score high enough points will advance to the finals.” He added that this year, for the first time ever, the FMX Best Trick contest (with both right-side up and up-side down categories) will also be showcased.
“We’ve been waiting excitedly for a whole year and we’re finally back. We’ve upped the ante for this year’s King of the Whip, bringing bigger and better to both the riders and spectators. To our event partners – thank you! Thank you for making this possible and providing our top riders with an opportunity to showcase their skills on dirt bikes. It is going to be extreme fun, crazy and exciting,” he said.
He concluded by saying, “We invite everyone, families and friends, to join us to witness this highly anticipated, adrenaline-fuelled event. Entrance is free and there will be food and beverages on sale”.
