Roodepoort parkrunner sinks teeth into event – literally

'Positive identification required'

After the parkrun that took place on 12 January, the organisers are now looking for the person who gave it his (or her!) all during the race – even his teeth.

Kip Norman, a volunteer at the Roodepoort parkrun, posted a photo of the dentures that were found after the race, on their Facebook page, saying, “Someone lost his dentures at our event this morning. Positive identification will be required.”

Fellow runners and community members reacted to this post with some witty comments, and some concerned friends tagged their friends in the post, asking if they still have theirs. With 167 reactions, 48 shares and 42 comments, the post was shared far and wide.

Kip explained that he wrote the post in a humoristic tone, in the hopes that someone would come forward to claim the lost dentures, “Dentures are very personal, unique and very expensive to replace, so we could not do nothing about the situation. We need to reunite the owner with his dentures.”

He added that he was glad to see that the post had the desired effect to spread some humour, and said, “The world can be such a miserable place, so I was glad to see that my post helped alleviate some of this, and that most of our followers saw the funny side of this situation.”

Kip gave his word that they will use total discretion, anonymity and confidentiality to ensure the teeth are given back to their rightful owner, and said, “I will drop them off for the poor soul who lost them.”
