The atmosphere in the hall at the Witpoortjie Bowling Club was electric as the soccer players eagerly waited for the prize-giving ceremony to start.
It was a glamorous affair, and the payers were dressed in their Sunday best, ensuring that the Roodepoort Euro Soccer Schools’ (ESS) first prize-giving was something to remember.
Junior Mwale, the manager and one of the coaches at ESS, beamed with pride, as he started the ceremony with the handing over of the medals and certificates for the U/7, U/9, U/11, U/13, U/15 and U/17 teams.
This was followed by the individual awards, per age group:
• U/7 Top Goalscorer – Landon Rusty
• U/7 Player of the Year – Bonginkosi Ndlela Junior
• U/7 Defender of the Year – Waleed Joffie
• U/9 Top Goalscorer – Kgosi Ramodibe
• U/9 Defender of the Year – Michael Botha
• U/9 Player of the Year – Kgosi Ramodibe
• U/11 Top Goalscorer –Tumelo Moshugi
• U/11 Player of the Year – Lebohang Litabe
• U/11 Defender of the Year – Zethe Dlamini
• U/11 Midfielder of the Year – Lebohang Litabe
• U/12 Player of the Year – Tshiamo Kale
• U/12 Top Goalscorer – Rea Mabe
• U/13 Top Goalscorer – Siphiwe Mabaso
• U/13 Midfielder of the Year – Mfundo Mdyogolo
• U/13 Defender of the Year – Cayshann Lindenberg
• U/13 Player of the Year – Siphiwe Mabaso
• U/15 Defender of the Year – Karabelo Moshugi
• U/15 Player of the Year – Nani Lindenberg
• U/16 Top Goalscorer – Siyanda Somacele
• U/16 Midfielder of the Year – Fhulufhelo Mofokeng
• U/16 Player of the Year – Katlego Morudu
• U/16 Defender of the Year – Young CJ Phiri
The highlight of the evening was the special awards, which were awarded as follows:
• Goalkeeper of the Year – Mpho Mudau (U/9) and Paolos Ndlovu (U/16)
• Super parents award – Lindy Lindenberg and Teresa Coetzee (Super Moms); Lehlogonolo Mathe (Super Dad)
• Manager’s Award – Bonginkosi Ndlela Junior and Matobane Moshugi
• Most Dedicated and Improved Player – Thabang Motaung
• Best Newcomer – Mfundo Mdyogolo and Thato Ramoloko
• ESS Roodepoort Best Player Across All Age Groups – Fhulufhelo Mofokeng
• Performance of the Year Award – Kailum Baburam
