Florida Police conduct a Licensing Station awareness campaign

Elderly targeted the most.

On 27 November, Captain Lydia Mtila-Dikolomela of Florida Police Station embarked on an awareness campaign at the Florida Licensing Department.

Three hundred pamphlets were left at various service points and some were distributed to the public.

The campaign was initiated following a number of recurring incidents where people visiting the station have been robbed or conned out of their belongings, including large amounts of cash.

The incidents usually occur when clients are reluctant to stand in the long queues and consequently fall prey to those usually hanging around near the gate of the premises who offer their assistance to ‘speed up the process’. They then vanish with the victims’ money and personal documents.

Sometimes the victims receive a call requesting more money to pay their outstanding fines.

Most of the targets are elderly people.
