According to a leaked document, a clause will be or has been added to the draft National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill, 2018, contradicting Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi earlier claims that medical aids will continue as normal.
The Bill was tabled earlier this year for public scrutiny but it seems that the clause in question was sneaked in later.

The controversial clause states that medical aids and private health insurance companies will not be allowed to cover any service that the NHI covers. The clause states that this is to “eliminate the fragmentation of health care funding”.
Another aim of the NHI, among other things, is to stop co-payments, in other words medical aids must cover the complete amount and not only a part of it, abolish health insurance brokers and abolish prescribed minimum benefits.
