Support the Roodepoort/Krugersdorp SPCA’s charity shop

The shop has been revamped and is under new management

They say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and this is definitely the case with the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA’s charity shop.

The shop has been an important part of the shelter’s continued existence, but unfortunately, interest and support have dwindled in the past few years. In an effort to rectify that, the shop has been revamped and is now being manned by a new manager.

Louis de Jongh has been at the helm of the shop for the past six months, and has tried his utmost to change the image of the shop and make the visitors’ experience more positive. “I have picked up all the clothing and arranged it in containers or hung it on rails. The different goods we have for sale have also been neatly packed onto the shelves, and there is ample space to walk between them and browse. We also have two bookcases with secondhand books,” Louis said.

He added that they sell the items at the charity shop to help generate some extra income, which is then used to help care for the animals, as well as for day-to-day maintenance at the SPCA, and said, “We are appealing to the community to help us by donating their unwanted or unused items, which can be anything from kettles, pots, pans, irons, plates, any kitchen items, ornaments, picture frames, furniture, carpets, clothing and bedding, to garden items, lawnmowers, weed eaters, and books.”

Louis said that they also accept any pieces of furniture, “Instead of dumping your old and unwanted furniture, we encourage the community to donate to us, as it could change someone else’s life.”

He explained that he tries to keep all the unique goods that are donated, to ensure that everyone visiting the shop is able to find something not available at any store, and said, “I try to ensure we have a good variety of goods in the shop, which can be purchased at a good price. This way I do not only ensure the shopper has a pleasant experience, but also that we raise money for the animals, which is the most important.”
