#JusticeforLee: Update: More charges to be added

Case postponed to consolidate cases and DPP decision

The accused in the missing Liyaqat ‘Lee’Mentoor case, the 29-year-old Onke Hartin Mashinini, appeared again in the Roodepoort Magistrates’Court on 24 October.

He stands accused of kidnapping, child neglect, defeating the ends of justice, and premeditated murder.

Mashinini briefly appeared in Court F, where it was confirmed that a charge of aggravated robbery will now be added to his current charges, and the dockets will be seen as one.With no objections from his legal representative, advocate Twala, the case was then transferred to Court K.

When he appeared in the dock, the Magistrate, Delize Smith, asked the State Prosecutor, Mr Temeki, if all the other dockets mentioned in the Police’s investigative report were in the hands of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which he then confirmed.

Smith then said that the case should be postponed, in order for the State Prosecutor to complete all the necessary paperwork pertaining to the consolidation of the dockets. They were also still waiting for the DPP’s instructions pertaining to the case.

She also confirmed that Mashinini will no longer physically come to court, but will appear on audio visual remand (AVR).

The case was postponed to 29 November, with Mashinini remaining in custody.
