Crime spike reported in Roodekrans area

Residents, not only in this area but others as well, are urged to be vigilant and on high alert.

According to a Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch (RNW) report there has been a visible spike in crimes reported to their operations control room from Tuesday (23 October) to Wednesday (24 October).

The following incidents were reported within a 24-hour time frame in the Roodekrans/ Helderkruin/ Wilro Park area:

• On 23 October at about 3.30pm there was a housebreaking and damage to property on Wilde Amandel Avenue. The thugs derailed the gate, broke the security gate and the front door, and made off with two laptops, two flat-screen TVs and jewellery.

• On 24 October at about 10am a vehicle was hijacked in Steinmann Road. The thugs, driving a white Toyota Etios, hijacked and robbed a courier vehicle and fled.

• On the same day at about 12.30pm there was an attempted housebreaking on Azalea Avenue. Two males jumped the wall but fled when the domestic worker spotted them. They fled in a silver/ grey Hyundai Accent.

• Earlier, at 12.18pm there was an attempted break-in on Vuurlelie Street. Thugs derailed and damaged the gate but failed to gain entrance to the property.

• At 1.42pm in Norite Road there was a housebreaking. The thugs again derailed the gate, broke the security gate and the front door, before fleeing with two flat-screen TVs and jewellery.
