Slippery petty thieves cause big commotion

Three suspects were caught shortly afterwards.

Generaal Pienaar Avenue was lined with hordes of curious and confused shoppers and shop owners a short while ago, as at least four vehicles chased a number of suspects.

Although the first rumour going round was that the Witpoortjie Spar had fallen prey to a robbery, this was far from the truth. According to a male employee he spotted a man shop-lifting a container of Vaseline. When the man realised he had been spotted, he fled on foot, alongside two other suspects. Employees and members of the public gave chase, two on motorcycles and two in vehicles. The man, allegedly wearing a red top, and his cohorts was last seen running down Haynes Street in the direction of Trezona Avenue.

Meanwhile the three men were caught but one was released because he allegedly had no stolen goods on him and could not possitively be linked to the theft.
