Child injured by flying gas cylinder
Authorities to investigate incident.

A 14-year-old girl was left critically injured two nights (30 September) ago after she was hit by a gas cylinder on Ontdekkers Road in Newlands.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 5.45pm to find the young girl lying on the sidewalk. Assessment showed that she had sustained serious injuries to both of her legs and was in a critical condition.

Paramedics treated the girl and provided her with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the girl was transported to Helen Joseph Provincial Hospital for urgent treatment.
It is understood that some men had been working on the cylinder across the road at a scrapyard. A problem occurred with the cylinder, causing it to fly across the road and strike the girl.
The local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
