24 Seven Junior gymnasts achieve at SA Championships

Eighteen gymnasts awarded junior Central Gauteng colours

The junior members from the 24 Seven Trampoline and Gymnastics Club made their coach very proud at the recent South African Trampoline Championships.

During the championships, 18 gymnasts were awarded with their Junior Central Gauteng colours, and their coach, Luitha Roux, was overjoyed.

The gymnasts who were awarded their Central Gauteng colours are:

• JT Roux

• Cecelia Janse van Vuuren

• Angelique Maaske

• Dorika Marais

• Ulrich du Plessis

• Gerhardt van Niekerk

• Diané Bekker

• Libby Bekker

• Wesley du Plessis

• Shaun Husselman

• Stefan Janse van Vuuren

• Ruan Lombaard

• Nita Marais

• Colin Meyer

• Duncan Schlebusch

• Robyn Raadt

• Phoenix Raadt

• Elandri Dippenaar

Luitha said that, even though all of her gymnasts did a sterling job, there were some whose performance were outstanding, and worth highlighting.

The six-year-old JT Roux was one of the only gymnasts in his age category that was able to jump at Level 3 on the blacktop trampoline, and Luitha said, “He managed to win a bronze medal at the championships, which is quite an achievement, seeing that he had to achieve a certain points total for this position. He is a good example of the saying ‘dynamite comes in small packages’.”

Cecelia Janse van Vuuren, another six-year-old, participated in both the mini trampoline and the blacktop category, where she competed in a group of 12 competitors of varying ages. She managed to win two gold medals.

“It was the eight-year-old Ulrich du Plessis’ first year in which he competed, and he and his teammate, eight-year-old Gerhardt van Niekerk, won a silver medal on Level 3 of the blacktop trampoline. Ulrich also qualified for participation in the mini double trampoline category at the Senior South African games taking place later this year,” Luitha said proudly.
