Florida’s Adielah wants to make a difference
She wants to collect 500 pairs of running shoes
She loves to run, has climbed Table Mountain (up and down) and is also the runner-up for the Get It’s Face of the Spar Ladies’ Race competition.
“I have always loved running. My father was a marathon runner in his younger days, so I guess you can say I was born to run! I do not run competitively, but it is definitely my preferred way to keep fit,” said Adielah Johnson.
She added that she has done a variety of races with distances ranging from 10 to 33km, and said, “I have completed two Spar Ladies’ Races, the 21km Run Zone and the Clearwater 10km. My longest race was the Colgate Race, which spans a distance of 32km.”
On the days that she does not run, she enjoys working out in the gym, where she either attends cross-fit classes or works on strengthening her abs, legs and upper body. She also tries to attend the parkrun every Saturday. “I spend my weekends running, running and, yes, running! But I also try to make time to watch some series (which I love) or to take my son to the movies or kiddies’ play areas. And, if I do have some extra time, I love to put my hidden talent to good use, and cook pots of food!” Adielah said.
She describes herself as someone who likes to improve herself as often as she can, and loves to push her body to its limits. She said, “I am a friendly person and feel very strongly about everything I am passionate about. And, although I do love my quiet time as well, I love to meet new people and see new places too.”

Adielah believes that sport is very important to children and said, “Children who are running and passionate about sport will be kept away from drugs and crime. As a mother of a six-year-old, it is very important to me that they have positive activities to keep them active. That is also why I am already introducing Caden to running, as we often walk the parkrun together.”
She said, that, in an attempt to ensure young runners stay passionate about sport, she will be part of an initiative that will make a huge difference, and explained, “When I ran the Spar Race last year, I noticed that a lot of the runners ran barefoot, and, this year, we would like to collect any and all takkies and running shoes to donate to these up and coming runners.”
Adielah said that this initiative was very close to her heart, because, as a runner, she knows just how important it is to have pair of takkies in which to run and train. “I believe that, together, we can collect at least 500 pairs of takkies in our region, which will enable us to make a huge difference in the lives of underprivileged runners,” she said.
Caxton Joburg West will be teaming up with Adielah, in a bid to help her reach her target, and is urging all athletes, joggers and everyday sports enthusiasts to donate their unwanted running shoes that are still in good condition.
To kick off the campaign, donations can be dropped off at the Roodepoort parkrun this Saturday, 8 September, from 8am at Len Rutter Park.
Shoes can also be dropped off at the Caxton office, on the corner of Generaal Pienaar Avenue and Ham Street, Witpoortjie.
