Witpoortjie boxers shine at Gauteng Championships

‘I am very proud of them’

Two boxers from the Vikings Amateur Boxing Club participated in the recent Junior and Youth Gauteng Championships.

Juan Visser competed in the 61kg category, and managed to win a bronze medal. Marno Pretorius, who competes in the 81+ kg category, unfortunately did not have any opponents.

“Because of this, he automatically qualified for the finals but, under the new rules, he cannot be named as the champion if he did not actually box. But, I am very proud of these two boxers, and know that they will achieve much more,” said Phillip du Randt, the head coach.

Phillip was also one of the team’s coaches and he concluded by saying, “It was a privilege to be part of a very successful and action-packed Gauteng Championship for juniors and youths”.

Training at Vikings takes place every Monday to Thursday from 6pm to 8pm at the Witpoortjie Recreation Hall. For more information, contact Phillip on 081 212 9143.
