The 2018 Caxton Golf Day managed to raise a whopping R92 000 through sponsorships, raffles and players’ fees. The funds were used for two community projects.
The first project was a Child Welfare Day at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, where children from four different homes had the opportunity to experience a day filled with fun and laughter.
A total of 210 children and 125 volunteers participated in this fun day, during which they did not only build relationships but had the opportunity to forget about their daily cares while eating ice cream, playing on the jumping castles and participating in fun activities.

The second project was the Let’s go Paint the City project, a face-lift day at the Johannesburg Gymnastics Club in Newlands. The club is home to mostly Newlands residents, and has produced more than 90 per cent of the country’s Protea, Olympic and Commonwealth champions and participants.
Thirty-one volunteers, armed with paint, brushes and a lot of excitement, used this opportunity to improve the conditions in which these gymnasts practise for hours every week, and, by improving their community hall, helped with the upliftment of the community members.
A week before the project took place, major roof repairs were undertaken at the hall, after damage was caused by water.
All the volunteers felt the same on completion of these projects, even though it was hard work, coupled with a lot of sweat and dirty clothes – the smiles, satisfaction and happiness on the faces of the ones who call it home made it completely worth it.
