Metro Police only one to comment on ‘waterfall’ issue thus far
Roodepoort Police and City Parks have yet to respond.
Although the Record asked City Parks, the Metro Police and the Police to comment on the apparently illegal activities at the Dakota Avenue Park 1 waterfall last week, only the Metro Police has responded.
In a short but to the point reply, spokesperson Wayne Minnaar wrote, “JMPD will investigate the complaint. It is against City by-laws to cause a noise, nuisance or be scantily dressed in a public space”.

This situation has arisen as a result of the activities of two ‘religious groups’ which allegedly include “circumcisions, rape, nudity, rituals being performed, drumming, screaming and shouting and threats of violence towards passers-by”. Another persistent problem the authorities were asked to look into, is the use of the dangerously high ledge at the waterfall by uniform-clad schoolchildren to smoke ‘something’ and consume alcohol. This puts them at risk of seriously injuring themselves should they fall off the ledge
The Record will keep its readers posted as to what action the relevant authorities plan to take.
