Problematic raised pedestrian crossing soon to be thing of the past

Region C depot to investigate.

The monstrous raised pedestrian crossing on South Road will be investigated by Johannesburg Road Agency’s Region C depot, said spokesperson Zoleka Jika.

The problem arose not from the crossing itself but the fact that the lines painted on it are so faded that the crossing is nearly invisible to motorists, day and night. Learners of Hoërskool Die Adelaar, which is opposite the crossing, have said that they have witnessed several vehicles damaged at the crossing since it was constructed in October 2017.

A second problem is that the traffic sign supposed to warn motorists of the crossing incorrectly warns them of a low water bridge ahead.

DA ward councillor for the area, Rene Benjamin, could not be reached for comment
