Stop sign saga comes to grinding halt
Owner Dawie Ludick has been petitioning the authorities since 2016 to act, but his pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
Although promises were made on 20 March regarding motorists’ disregard of the stop sign at the intersection of Dirkie Uys and Penny Streets, they have yet to be honoured.

What makes the problem worse is that the stop sign in question is right in front of the popular Sterretjie Nursery School. Owner Dawie Ludick has been petitioning the authorities since 2016 to act, but his pleas have fallen on deaf ears. On 20 March, the councillor for Ward 71, Rene Benjamin, visited the site to determine the scope of the problem and admitted that it was severe. She promised to put pressure on the relevant authorities and involve MMC Leah Knott, but this too has yet to transpire.
The nursery school has gone so far as to stage a protest at the dangerous intersection, but the results thereof were short-lived.
Councillor Benjamin could not be reached for comment.
